Cybersecurity Awareness Month is usually full of the same conversations: passwords, patches, policies. Important, yes, but not the whole story. Because behind every “cyber incident” is a person trying to make sense of what just happened, what was taken, what was threatened, what was exposed, and what comes next.
This October, Cyber House Party is backing a mission that sits right at the heart of why our community exists: supporting people, not just systems.
That’s why we’re joining forces with The Cyber Helpline and inviting as many of you as possible to get involved in their October initiatives, starting with the one that’s built for our kind of community: the Cyber Step Challenge:
– It runs (or walk 😉 ) across October
– It uses the Big Team Challenge platform where you work in teams to complete a virtual journey
– Its goal is to raise funds for The Cyber Helpline, so more people can access free, expert support when they need it most.
This is the kind of challenge that works whether you’re a daily runner, a lunchtime stroller, a “10k steps when the weather behaves” person, or someone who just wants a reason to get outside more often.
It’s wellbeing. It’s team energy. It’s community impact. It’s exactly the blend we love.
Why we’re doing this
At Cyber House Party, we’ve never been about noise for the sake of it. We’re about using community energy for something that lasts.
The Cyber Helpline supports people affected by cybercrime, digital fraud, cyberstalking and online harm, and far too often, victims don’t get the practical help they need to recover.
And if you’ve read our previous blog “5 Million Reasons Why We’re All In For the Cyber Helpline This October” you’ll already know this truth: cyber harm isn’t rare, niche, or something that only happens to “other people.” It’s widespread. It’s personal. And it leaves a trail that most of us don’t see… until we do.
So this October, we’re choosing to be louder about the part that matters most: Making sure nobody has to face cybercrime alone.
The Cyber Helpline has four ways to get involved this October, and we love all of them:
– Take on the Cyber Step Challenge (our headline)
– Give an Hour (donate the value of one hour when the clocks go back)
– Book a speaker or training session
– Sponsor the campaign
But if you’re reading this as part of the CHP community, here’s the big one: The Step Challenge is the easiest “yes” you’ll make all month.
It’s a reason to move. A reason to connect. A reason to show up for others, without needing a huge budget or a huge plan.
Here’s the ask: bring your people with you
This isn’t just “sign up if you fancy it.”
This is:
– If you’re in a company: start a team
– If you’re in a community: rally your crew
– If you’re a leader: make it a thing
– If you’re a solo human: join and invite two more
Because momentum is contagious, and October is the perfect month to turn good intentions into visible action.
October is coming fast. So here’s your mission:
– Choose your team
– Register for the Cyber Step Challenge
– Set a simple goal (and make it an inspiration for others)
– Share it, invite others, and commit to showing up all month
Let’s make this the month we don’t just talk about cyber resilience – but we walk the talk!
If you want to take part under the CHP banner, drop a message to the team and we’ll help coordinate, amplify, and celebrate the journey.
Ready? Let’s get moving!
