5 Million Reasons We’re All In For The Cyber Helpline This October

Every October, we talk about cyber security like it’s only about passwords, patches, and policies. But for millions of people, “cyber” isn’t an abstract risk – it’s the moment your stomach drops when you realise something is wrong.

– A message that looks like your bank.
– A notification that someone’s got access to your account.
– A threat from someone who should not be able to reach you anymore.

In England and Wales alone, over 5 million people go through some version of cybercrime every single year, and most never get real help. Not meaningful help. Not human help. Not the “tell me what happened and we’ll get you safe” kind of help.

That’s why Cyber House Party is putting its full weight behind our 2026 charity partner: The Cyber Helpline, and why we’re launching something new for Cyber Security Awareness Month.

How The Cyber Helpline is Closing the Gap

When people are hit by cybercrime, the impact rarely stops at money. People describe:

Fear and anxiety that follows them offline as much as online
Loss of confidence in their devices, their accounts, and themselves
Disrupted sleep, work, and family life
Isolation, shame, and long-term emotional fallout

This is what we want to raise attention to: cyber harm is human harm, and too many people are left to navigate it alone.

The Cyber Helpline exists to close that gap – built by the cybersecurity community, for anyone hit by digital fraud, cybercrime, and online harm. No jargon. No cost. Just practical support.

– Their model works because it meets people where they are:
– An AI-supported chatbot for first response (24/7)
– Plain-English recovery guidance people can act on immediately
– A trained volunteer helpdesk staffed by cyber professionals
– Specialist support for complex, high-harm cases

And it’s already making a measurable difference:

2M+ people have used their recovery guides
100K+ people supported directly through the helpdesk
3K+ people accessing services every month
